Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. Psalms 37:3-5

This is one of my favorite passages of scripture.

What I’ve often noticed, however, is that we focus on receiving the desires of our heart.

But if we look closely at this passage we have to realize that delighting ourselves in the Lord comes first, centering in Him, delighting in Him as the source and the fulfillment of our desires, and then, also, receiving from Him after your life is centered on Him.

Trust in the Lord. Delight in the Lord. Commit your way to the Lord.

The center of the passage is Him.

Remember what Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, then all of these things shall be added unto you!”

The Lord is the source, the heart, and also ought to be greatest object of our desire.

There are lots of good things in this world but we have to be careful about what we want and why.

When the Lord is our greatest and first love, every desire of our hearts will be perfectly fulfilled. That’s the promise of this wonderful word.

I want a closer walk with HIM! Life and obstacles continue to get in my way. With all the sickness and adversity that has been coming at me it is hard NOT to put the blame on HIM. I try to rejoice in HIM but it is so very hard at times! I feel like I am losing my way along with strength. It’s so hard to keep my eyes on HIM when everywhere I turn is so much negativity in my life! How do you keep rejoicing when it’s all bad news and reports from doctor after doctor? Help me find my way back to HIM! Any advice on how to do this?

Hello Susan, I know it feels like that at times, but we have to do what it says. TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL OF YOUR HEART AND LEAN NOT ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING.Proverbs 3 verse 5. As long as your reading your Bible everyday and asking Jesus to enlighten the eyes of your understanding. Ephesians 1 verse 18 the Holy spirit can use whatever you put in. And to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge-that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3 verse 19. God knows exactly where you are, so don’t worry, that’s what Jesus taught us, don’t worry. Just keep putting the words in, God will bring them out for his glory.
