They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by men because you pay no attention to who they are, but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay, or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius, and let me look at it.” They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at him. (Mark 12:14-17 NIV)
Prayer: LORD, help me understand what I can give to You. Some things are obvious, like living with integrity and morality according to Your principles and teaching. I want to know more about what brings you joy and pleasure. Teach me what You desire for me to know, lead me where You have for me to go, and help me trust You when I do not understand. Thank You for Your patience as I learn and grow more mature in our relationship. Help me give to You what is Yours–which begins with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
