Picture it in your mind: a desert wind blowing sand around as the walls of a tent flap elude you. You need to stake down the walls so that the tent will stay in place.
Stakes were what held the Israelites’ tents in place in the strong desert winds, which could take a tent and send it flying like a kite. The tent was their dwelling place, where they lived. It needed to be secure. Because tents have no true foundation, they need the stakes to secure them.
If we strengthen our “stakes”, or our faith, we are strengthening that which holds us in place in time of trouble so that we are firm and secure.
We are strengthening our foundation. Jesus is the only one who can keep our core safe and steady in times of trouble.
So if we are strengthening our stakes, we are strengthening our core beliefs, our relationship with Him. We need to make sure our foundation is secure in Christ.
