Have you ever thought or felt that you did not have much to offer God? What could you do? You’re just … (fill in the blank of whatever you think is insignificant about you). We all feel this at some time or another. Have you ever wondered why this is so? I have. Allow me to share a few thoughts with you today.

One of the reasons we default to such self-deprecating (undervaluing) thinking so easily is because we think like a human and not like God. This is one of our significant problems. It is so simple that it seems like a “no-brainer”, yet, so few recognize it.

Our vision and view is so dramatically and drastically limited (compared to God’s) that it sabotages us before we can come to understand our value to God. Only one thing can over come this, and God has already given it to us: I am speaking of faith.

“All we have here are five loaves and two fish,” they replied. “Then bring them here to me,” Jesus said. He ordered the people to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, and gave thanks to God. He broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. Everyone ate and had enough. Then the disciples took up twelve baskets full of what was left over. The number of men who ate was about five thousand, not counting the women and children. (Mat 14:17-21 GNB)

Take today’s Scripture passage, for example. We are not told in this passage who had the fish and loaves, but a “parallel” passage in John 6 identifies a young boy as having the fish and loaves. He is not named, identified only as a boy. Let’s assume, for today, that it is the same story.

Can you imagine that this boy did not think he had much to offer Jesus? I imagine that if he thought about it at all, he would wonder what Jesus would care about two fish and some bread. Well, as we come to discover, He would think a lot about it.

How do you think this story would have turned out if the boy had NOT had the fish and bread? Jesus would have had no “raw materials” that day with which to perform this miracle. However, as we see, He did and He did, and five thousand had a meal. Counting women and children, the number could have been as many as twenty thousand.
And all this was enabled by one boy with two fish and some bread. What he had was not the point. Making what he had available to Jesus was the point.

In the “big scheme” of things, in the way humans think, and in all logic and reasoning, two fish and some bread would not change the world. But in the way God thinks, it did. Since we are still talking about it over two thousand years later, this boy’s two fish and bread DID change the world.

What made the difference? Jesus needed two fish and bread and the boy made it available to Him at the time He needed it. Simple, is it not?

What do you have that will make a difference in the world? You may not yet know. Truth is, you may never know in this life. Know this, however: You were not created without a purpose; of this you can be certain.

You have something that is important to God or you would not be here. You are not an accident. You are not a random combination of DNA that came alive in an organic accident. It does not work that way. You are uniquely known, planned, and created by God. Regardless of the circumstances of your birth, you were in God’s heart, mind, and vision before you were born. I truly believe there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this. NONE!

What is your “two fish”? You will know when God needs you to know because knowing too soon could affect the purpose. This too is true for all of us. Some think they know. Some seem to have a clearer purpose than others. For all of us, however, we think like humans and not like God. This means that we do not know–and what we think we know we may not know.

What can you do then? Just be who God has created you to be. He knows what He is doing. He will have you where He has for you to be when you need to be there. Trust Him.

Then, when it is time, you may hear Him say,

“It’s time. Thank you for trusting me. I need those two fish now.”
