What audience do you play to?

Each day, you are seen by many who will make a judgment about the way you handle yourself among different audiences.

Politicians have learned to play to their audiences, customizing messages for the needs of their particular groups.

Musicians have learned to play to their audiences.

Pastors play to their congregations each Sunday morning.

Workplace believers play to the audiences who will buy their product.

Christ has called us to play to one audience–the audience of Himself.

When you seek to please any other audience in your life, you become susceptible to situational ethics and motivations based on the need for the moment. Your audience becomes a pawn in your hands because you know what they want. Is that wrong? Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t.

Pure obedience to pleasing God in our lives will often meet the needs of those around us.

It is God’s will that you and I love our spouses, provide good services to our customers, and look to the interests of others before ourselves. This will result in meeting many needs of the audiences in our lives.

However, there are other times when our audiences are asking for something contrary to God’s will.

Politicians are often forced to appease their audiences, even though it may go against God’s laws. When we are asked to go with the flow, we discover which audience is most important in our lives. Is it the audience of One, or the audience of many?

Today, be aware of which audience you are playing to.

Ask yourself why you are taking a particular action.

Is it to please the audience of One?

Or is it to please the audience of others who might negatively impact you should you not play to their tune?

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–His good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2

Thank you very much for this lovely story. You will never know how much I needed to hear this today!
I believe it would be unfair to mention all that has been said and done, but, “The Lord has been my God through all of it”. I would have to say, “Thank you Lord.” He does not walk away nor does he constantly accuse. It is easy to get caught up in how we are suppose to “react” or “show” Joy. When really, if we show anyone anything,it is what it is show or performance. Our joy of the Lord is our strength. He shows me the way and I do not want to be out of his will. For he is my light and my salvation. He is my strength, my rock and my fortress! Again,Thank you, for the words of encouragement and the reminder!

Iam a musician and most diffently prefer to sing and worship and give glory to the one and only King Jesus. In my early years I was interested to perform before many and thinking I could direct my worship to Father God and His wonderful Son.But now I know better its not about performance its about a relationship with the KING its not about what I can do its what HE did for me .It took along time to realize this. And now its a relationship that is deep and it gets deeper and deeper when I only sing and worship Him.Praise be to my KING who saved me and truly loves me

Thank you so much for sharing this message today, from time to time it seems you are talking straight to me or should I say the Lord has opened my eyes to the things I am lacking or something that is needed for a change in myself or even just a comforting message from a particularly oppurtunistic day to learn from. Thank you again, keep your messages broadcasting. Claudette

    God blessings to all.

Great message! Reminds me of Colssians 3:23–whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.

i really apreciate this article, however i have a comment… i have been struggling in this area specially with family members including my ex husband. how do we turn away from pleasing someone who is close to us like a spouse or family member? I dont want to be disrespecful or have any conflict but how do i get the message accross with love and avoiding conflict? my ex husband and I have reconnected after 5 years but he has not changed in his old ways of being closed minded and pesimistic or realistic he has other great qualities he is the father of our daugher. i want to raise her together he is the only man whom i have been in love with inspite of his faults… How do i find a way to stop feeling like i have to stay quiet to avoid conflict? i don’t want to suffer in silent but cant seem to find my own answer. my ex husband is a non believer i am a born again christian i love the lord and want to be obedient but where does the line get drawn without conflict? thanks for your time!
