Make It Enough | AllWorship.com

We have all been there. You know the place: the one where we feel alone, powerless, without enough to do what we need to do. I do not think there is a human alive who has not felt this in some way at some time. Hard place to be, it is.

The people in today’s Scripture passage needed strength for their journey. The strength they needed would come from nourishment. And … they didn’t have any. They were “fresh out” without a solution.

During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.” His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?” “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked. “Seven,” they replied. (Mark 8:1-5 NIV)

Jesus called the disciples and included them in the decision process. They responded something like this (in our way of saying it today): “OK, Jesus, but where are we going to get food out here?” I can just imagine Jesus smiling a faint, almost imperceptible smile as He responded, “What food do you have?”

They were likely thinking to themselves, “Not enough; that’s for sure.” But their not enough combined with His enough made more than enough. This is what we must keep in mind when we are in a remote place without resources and no solution–and especially when we have no possibility of initiating a solution on our own.

This is a difficult place. Have you been there? Such a place will try you and test you. This is in truth precisely what it is designed to do. Regardless of how hard you work not to be in such a place, it will likely find you because God intends for it to find you. Such places are how we learn and grow.

Uncomfortable? Yes, very. And necessary. You cannot see a way to survive in such a situation. But God can. You cannot see how you will get out of the circumstances in which you find yourself. But God does. You may even feel hopeless. But God knows that you are not.

Set your heart to trust Him to make a way when there is no way. Impossible? For us, yes, but not for Him. He can take your little (or nothing) and, combined with His enough, make that impossible way not only possible, but incredible.

“Remote” times will come. Do not think it strange. Those times are part of the maturing process in your relationship with God. Although this will seem counterintuitive, I encourage you to embrace those times. They are an opportunity to have faith and trust God in real time. They are also times to see God do spectacular things that you would not otherwise see.

Dare to believe God and trust Him in such times. What do you have to lose? You cannot lose what you do not have. But you can gain when you do not have. What can you gain? Everything. When you think of it this way, it makes sense.

So, what do you have? Hear Jesus say to you, “How many loaves do you have?”.

Be willing to give all to Him and watch what He will do with it. When you give Him your little, it will always be enough. In fact, when you give Him your all, it becomes impossible to not be enough. Why? Your little with His all becomes everything.
