Do you know? Fortune? Disaster? A great opportunity? Disappointment? Who can tell? One thing is certain: You will not know until you go through it.

It may be an unassuming door, not at all what you hoped for or expected. It may be old and well worn. It may be sparkly and shiny. Who can tell? You will know when you get there. And then again, perhaps you won’t.

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. (Jer 18:1-4 NIV)

Doors in life are like that. Sometimes they look like where they lead … and sometimes they don’t. Jeremiah was told by God to go to the potter’s house. He was promised a message from God there. Odd, is it not? Jeremiah’s response? “So I went …”

That’s the thing about when God leads somewhere. You never know what is going to happen, where that door is going to lead, or what you will do when you get there. But God does. A message like Jeremiah received requires faith and trust. And faith and trust only come through relationship and experience. And how can you get that? Being willing to go through doors, that’s how.

As I am writing the book I told you about recently, I realized that the “Dangerous Prayer” (as we have come to call it) is a portal of sorts. It is a doorway or gateway into deeper and greater relationship with God, a portal that opens into another dimension of relationship with Him.

I am, of course, not speaking of a portal as depicted in sci-fi movies where a shimmering disc appears, and someone is transported by unknown technology to another place when they step through it. But then, spiritually, it is something like that.

Where will it take you? Only God knows. And yet, there is something familiarly predictable about it. It works by faith in humility. It requires a trust to believe that where God leads is for your good.

What will your door look like? I cannot say; but God can. Whatever it looks like will be exactly what it needs to be. And this I can tell you: It is out there. Of that I have no doubt because God’s desire is for all of us to grow deeper and stronger in Him. Therefore, I am confident that He has a door, a gateway, a portal for all of us. I found mine. I want you to find yours.

In most cases (all I have ever known about), it is hidden. It is not easily found nor is it clearly visible. It must be searched out. When God reveals your doorway, be willing to do what Jeremiah did: Just go.

You won’t know what awaits until you open the door. God is not going to give you a preview (in most cases) or a trip itinerary. You just have to go. Like Jeremiah: “So I went …” Get ready. Your door may open when you least expect it.
