In ancient times, when an oriental king gave a banquet and wanted to show how rich he was, he would take apples and cover them with gold, place them in silver baskets, and distribute them to his guests.

“Take a golden apple with you,” he said, and these golden apples became prized possessions.

We should never underestimate the value and power of our words.

A judge speaks, and a person is condemned or set free. A physician speaks, and a person has surgery or goes home from the hospital.

In your life and in mine, we recognize the power of words.

Words can bless, or they can curse. Words can lift us up or cut us down.

Let’s commit to pay closer attention to the words we speak.

Words spoken in the right circumstances, at the right moment, and with the right motivation, can make a world of difference – and can be like apples of gold to the person who receives them.

Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances. Proverbs 25:11
